Express Yourself!

Gucci’s DIY (Do It Yourself) is the personalization service that lets you customize your Gucci men’s jackets, tuxedos, coats, shirts, knitwear, and even shoes.

Gucci DIY service customizes jackets, coats, and shirts

This is the king of customization. The finest way to customize luxury fashion, the Gucci DIY (Do It Yourself) service has been very close to the heart of Creative Director Alessandro Michele, ever since he introduced a way for women to personalize their Dionysus bags. What followed was men’s tailoring and shoes for both men and women, the idea being to let customers of the House express themselves through the personalization of certain products. With roots in his love of the British punk attitude, Alessandro Michele’s philosophy is that the way you dress is an expression of your personality, and that men and women should feel genuinely free to enjoy self-expression.

Ready-to-wear for men

The men’s products available for customization are extensive – all jackets are fully-canvassed, and there are several silhouettes for day and eveningwear for jackets, blazers, tuxedos and coats. You can now choose from a wide range of fabrics and buttons, as well as from a host of monogram lettering options. Key to the process is the selection of linings, and here Gucci is producing lots of bright patterns in silk foulard to choose from – these designs can be used for both jacket linings and trouser waistbands.

With the new Gucci DIY service, get your tuxedos customized as per what's seen on the red carpet

An important part of the DIY initiative is centred around eveningwear, where customized pieces inspired by the red carpet are now available to customers for the first time. To augment the tailoring there are also formal shirts with collar and cuff options, a selection of silk printed shirts, and a number of knitwear styles, which come in 14-guage cashmere and exclusive fine 21-guage merino wool. Symbols and monograms can be embroidered on to knitwear pieces and shirts.

The Gucci logo that you can customize

Gucci DIY is also available for shoes. Dressy mules are available in a variety of materials and colours, and can be personalized with a choice of horsebit (in silver or gold), embossed initials (on the insole), and offer the possibility of adding a tiger’s head patch to the apron of some models (in yellow, green or blue). The loafer is available in many materials and colours, and can be customized with embossed initials on the insole. All the DIY project shoes feature specially designed packaging.

With the aim of the DIY service to encourage you to interpret the Gucci aesthetic in a highly idiosyncratic way, the combination of materials, detailing and decoration on offer ensures that the end result will always evoke the spirit of Alessandro Michele’s vision.

Lifestyle Insider is a kind of junction point, connecting people with diverse interests that touch on the more luxurious aspects of lifestyle – fashion, design, travel, food and spirits, art, watches and jewellery, cars, yachts, and aviation, and technology. People today don’t fit into boxes and categories. In our individual ways, we are interested in diverse themes, products, and the challenges that face our world today. You will judge how well this effort of mine caters to your passions and proclivities.

Lifestyle Insider is a showcase of all that is beautiful and luxe. Behind every creation, is a designer, chef, entrepreneur, or a design maison. I have delved into my own appreciation for objetsde luxe that I have admired over the years – be it a love of fashion from the world’s top Parisian and Italian fashion maisons and their ’90s muses, or the care that goes into sari and Indian textile collections in my own family. Growing up on four continents, as the daughter of a former Indian Ambassador, I’ve seen a remarkable array of historic places and met a myriad people. My aim is to bring my world view into this website, a curation of what I find particularly stunning, unique, and newsworthy.

It’s an exciting time for brands all over the world. With change comes opportunity. With the global ‘reset’ and uncertainty on many fronts, there is a chance to write a new script. Let’s be those pioneers.

A bit about me:
A luxury and fashion journalist with 25 years of experience in publishing and magazine journalism, I have edited some of India’s top fashion and luxury magazines. I got my BA in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley, and went on to receive my Master’s in English and French from the University of Strasbourg, France. I have also studied German and Film. I live in Gurugram, India, and look forward to once again exploring our world with a new-found freedom.
