Night at Fendace

It’s a real meeting of minds – where Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi bring their vision to Versace, mand Donatella Versace reimagines Fendi with her own unique style. This collection drops on May 12.

5 FENDACE Campaign

After the first Fendace collection launched last September at Milan Fashion Week, here’s a peek of what’s to come, May 12, of this unique meeting of fashion minds and friends – where the designers of both Fendi and Versace ‘swap’ roles briefly to create a capsule of menswear, womenswear, shoes, and accessories to be available in stores and online. With a unique, fun, campaign by Steven Meisel, it’s fun all the way for the two fashion maisons. “It’s a swap rather than a collaboration and, most of all, it is done out of friendship. It is the beauty of togetherness after time apart and a celebration of women who have inspired me so much,” says Kim Jones, Artistic Director Fendi Couture and Womenswear.

The car pulls-up, you step out. There’s distant music and people all around. You greet your friends with a flutter of air-kisses and walk straight to the front of the queue. What’s the passcode? Fendace, of course.

Welcome to the exclusive Fendace nightclub – where fashion history is made, friendship is all-around, and there’s fun to be had.

4 FENDACE Campaign

Fendace is a unique moment in fashion. It’s an exchange of roles and brand codes rather than a collaboration, with designers Kim Jones and Silvia Venturini Fendi bringing their perspective to Versace, and Donatella Versace recasting Fendi through her vision. In keeping with this sense of creative freedom and the impulsive fashion show that first announced the coming together of Fendi and Versace last September, the Fendace advertising campaign shot by iconic photographer Steven Meisel captures a sense of fabulous fun and go-for-it flair together with dedicated videos from renowned filmmaker, Alec Maxwell.

“The campaign captures the same sense of friendship and energy we had when we were designing the collection. Kim is a visionary designer and innovator. To me, Fendace will always mean love,” Donatella Versace, Chief Creative Officer Versace. Presented across two celebratory campaign videos, each sees a glamorous cast of supermodels – Adut Akech, Amar Ak- way, Anja Rubik, Anok Yai, Imaan Hammam, and Lina Zhang – entering the Fendace nightclub to let loose in their fabu- lously Fendace outfits – as long as they get past the fearsome bouncers on the door: none other than Naomi Campbell and Kristen McMenamy. Looks truly demonstrate the collection’s shared vision, as the Very Versace concept of more-is-more dressing comes together with Fendi’s considered approach to accessorizing and craftsmanship. Print and colour is loud and emotive, and fun logoism is fully embraced. Embellishments gleam across gem-studded accessories and jewellery which combine Fendi and Versace brand codes. Styles like the Fendace Peekaboo and Baguette – that combines the iconic Fendi bags silhouettes with Versace codes – and the Fendace La Medusa handbag – where the Fendi FF logo meets Versace’s Medusa – are a clear statement of the collection’s intent to create unique designs with respect for each fashion house at the core.

6 FENDACE Campaign

The collection launches May 12 through a series of global pop-ups and events which encapsulate the decadence of the Fendace experience. These locations are the only stores to offer the full collection, while the collection is divided through Fendi and Versace online and retail boutiques; with Fendi presenting the VERSACE BY FENDI collection, and FENDI BY VERSACE styles available at Versace boutiques and the brand’s online store. A capsule of joint Fendace branded looks is available from both fashion houses.

Lifestyle Insider is a kind of junction point, connecting people with diverse interests that touch on the more luxurious aspects of lifestyle – fashion, design, travel, food and spirits, art, watches and jewellery, cars, yachts, and aviation, and technology. People today don’t fit into boxes and categories. In our individual ways, we are interested in diverse themes, products, and the challenges that face our world today. You will judge how well this effort of mine caters to your passions and proclivities.

Lifestyle Insider is a showcase of all that is beautiful and luxe. Behind every creation, is a designer, chef, entrepreneur, or a design maison. I have delved into my own appreciation for objetsde luxe that I have admired over the years – be it a love of fashion from the world’s top Parisian and Italian fashion maisons and their ’90s muses, or the care that goes into sari and Indian textile collections in my own family. Growing up on four continents, as the daughter of a former Indian Ambassador, I’ve seen a remarkable array of historic places and met a myriad people. My aim is to bring my world view into this website, a curation of what I find particularly stunning, unique, and newsworthy.

It’s an exciting time for brands all over the world. With change comes opportunity. With the global ‘reset’ and uncertainty on many fronts, there is a chance to write a new script. Let’s be those pioneers.

A bit about me:

I got my BA in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley, and went on to receive my Master’s in English and French from the University of Strasbourg, France. I have also studied German and Film. I live in Gurugram, India, and look forward to once again exploring our world with a new-found freedom.
