Spicy Spirits!

Today is World Cognac Day. What better way to celebrate than by whipping up a trio of delish cocktails with Indian spices? Here are some flavourful recipes to try at home, with recipes brought to you from Hennessy India.

The Hennessy Mata Hari

HENNESSY MATA HARI

Glassware: Coupe

Ingredients:

40 ml – Hennessy Very Special 30 ml – Ginger and Cinnamon Infused Sweet Vermouth 22 ml – Lime Juice 15 ml – Simple Syrup 22 ml – Pomegranate Juice 1 dash – Aromatic Bitters

Garnish: Dehydrated Lime and Edible Flowers

Directions:

Pour all the ingredients into a shaker with ice and shake well. Double strain into a coupe glass and garnish with dehydrated lime and edible flowers.

The Hennessy Maple Spiced Old Fashioned

HENNESSY MAPLE SPICED OLD FASHIONED

Glassware: Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

60 ml – Hennessy Very Special
4 dashes – Angostura Bitters
7.5 ml – Homemade Spiced Maple Syrup

Garnish: Slice of Ginger and Dehydrated Lime

Directions:,

Add spiced maple syrup, bitters and Hennessy in a mixing glass full of ice. Stir until well chilled and diluted. Strain into an old fashioned glass with an ice block. Garnish with a flamed cinnamon stick.

The Hennessy Spicy Blazer

HENNESSY SPICY BLAZER

Glassware: Old Fashioned

Ingredients:

50 ml – Hennessy Very Special
0.5 tsp – Liquorice powder
30 ml – mineral water
1 pinch – Black Pepper
1 Tbsp – White Sugar
1 pinch – Ground Cinnamon

Garnish: Cinnamon Bark

Directions:

Mix all the ingredients in a metal shaker, flambé the liquid before pouring from one half of the shaker to the other half 4-5 times. Put out the flame and let cook. Pour into an old fashioned glass filled with ice cubes. Garnish with cinnamon bark.

A luxury and fashion journalist with 25 years of experience in publishing and magazine journalism, I have edited some of India’s top fashion and luxury magazines. I got my BA in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley, and went on to receive my Master’s in English and French from the University of Strasbourg, France. I have also studied German and Film.
