Off to a Flying Start!

The world’s watchmaking capital witnessed the opening of the Geneva Watch Days 2021 – a unique phygital watch event with the CEOs of founding members Bulgari, Ulysse Nardin and Girard-Perregaux, and Breitling making their welcome addresses.

On the evening of August 30th, the official opening of Geneva Watch Days 2021 was held at the Pavillon de la Rotonde du Mont Blanc, with more than 300 people from over 15 countries gathered for a unique phygital watch event in Geneva, the capital of watchmaking.

Geneva Watch Days was launched in August 2020, establishing itself as the year’s only multi-brand physical and digital watch event in Switzerland. Building on its success, in 2021 the show is once again celebrating another long-awaited gathering of journalists, retailers, and suppliers who have congregated for a face-to-face meeting. It will continue until September 3rd.

The Welcome Cocktail began with a speech by Mrs Fabienne Fischer, State Councillor in charge of the Department of Economy and Employment. She highlighted the pride taken in Swiss horological excellence and the importance of the watchmaking sector, as well as of the various related events – including the Geneva Watch Days which enliven this industry so dear to Switzerland and which represent the latest innovation in this field.

After this introduction, Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari, Patrick Pruniaux, CEO of Ulysse Nardin and Girard-Perregaux, as well as Georges Kern, CEO of Breitling – all three founding members of the watchmaking event – welcomed guests and emphasized the importance of Swiss horological expertise which is unique in the world. It was a fine kick-off, which augurs well for the success of this new edition of Geneva Watch Days.

This initiative was launched by a pool of Founding Benefactor Brands including Bvlgari, Breitling, De Bethune, Gerald Genta, Girard-Perregaux, H. Moser & Cie., MB&F, Ulysse Nardin and Urwerk, which have formed a non-profit association alongside Associated Brands: Arnold & Son, Bianchet, Charles Girardier, Czapek, Doxa, Ferdinand Berthoud, Frederique Constant Group, Greubel Forsey, Konstantin Chaykin, Louis Erard, Maurice Lacroix, Oris, Parmigiani Fleurier, Phillips in Association with Bacs & Russo, Raketa and Reuge.

A bit about me:
A luxury and fashion journalist with 25 years of experience in publishing and magazine journalism, I have edited some of India’s top fashion and luxury magazines. I got my BA in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley, and went on to receive my Master’s in English and French from the University of Strasbourg, France. I have also studied German and Film. I live in Gurugram, India, and look forward to once again exploring our world with a new-found freedom.
