Fashion legend Hemant Trevedi

This is one collaboration we can’t wait to set our sights on. Luxury fashion house, Purple Style Labs (PSL) has now joined hands with veteran fashion designer, Hemant Trevedi. PSL recently secured all rights in the ‘Hemant Trevedi’ brand and brought the designer on board as creative head of the Hemant Trevedi business vertical, a part of PSL’s portfolio of brands.

“it is indeed heartening when a team of young, focused professionals recognize, respect, and value my contribution to the growth of India’s fashion industry from its very inception,” says Hemant Trevedi. “I feel honoured and equally excited to become a part of the PSL family. My upcoming collections under the PSL umbrella will be true to my signature beliefs of creating fashion that is timeless, elegant and refined. Inspired by the changing times these ensembles will hopefully become a catalyst for a new design awareness for the fashion-conscious consumer of today.”

Founded in 2015, Purple Style Labs (PSL) is a luxury fashion house that has not only helped Indian designers scale their businesses efficiently under the the umbrella of PSL, but also inject technology and data management into the industry to reconstruct its DNA (it has acquired both Pernia’s Pop-Up Shop and the business of the late Wendell Rodricks, in 2020). "There’s a question that has often been asked at several occasions over the past decades which was also posed to me a few months ago – ‘Where does one go to buy a Hemant Trevedi creation’?” says Abhishek Agarwal, Director & CEO – PSL. “I am now happy to have the answer to that question and even happier that the answer will come from within PSL! With Hemant, we not only look forward to tapping into his creative mind and legacy but also to unearth the endless possibilities of what this collaboration may offer and bring to the fashion industry at large.”

Over the course of his career, Hemant continued to nurtured design talent, and contributed to the growth of fashion. With his extensive experience in the field, he was invited by the Ministry of Textiles in 1987, to join the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to develop its teaching programmes. Besides his design work, Trevedi is also extremely invested in Fashion Education, and continues to mentor many fashion designers in India and sits on the advisory board of leading fashion design institutes in the country, such as NIFT and INIFD.

Hemant is also well known for his collaboration with and contributions to various national beauty pageants such as Femina Miss India. Not only was he a contestant director and show choreographer for leading pageants in India but he has also created award-winning gowns donned by international pageant winners such as Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra Jonas, Lara Dutta Bhupathi, Diana Hayden and Yukta Mookhey, amongst others.

Prior to this collaboration with PSL, Hemant was also the Executive Fashion Director at Sheetal Design Studio where he was instrumental in developing India’s very first design studio of award-winning design interns.

Lifestyle Insider is a kind of junction point, connecting people with diverse interests that touch on the more luxurious aspects of lifestyle – fashion, design, travel, food and spirits, art, watches and jewellery, cars, yachts, and aviation, and technology. People today don’t fit into boxes and categories. In our individual ways, we are interested in diverse themes, products, and the challenges that face our world today. You will judge how well this effort of mine caters to your passions and proclivities.

Lifestyle Insider is a showcase of all that is beautiful and luxe. Behind every creation, is a designer, chef, entrepreneur, or a design maison. I have delved into my own appreciation for objetsde luxe that I have admired over the years – be it a love of fashion from the world’s top Parisian and Italian fashion maisons and their ’90s muses, or the care that goes into sari and Indian textile collections in my own family. Growing up on four continents, as the daughter of a former Indian Ambassador, I’ve seen a remarkable array of historic places and met a myriad people. My aim is to bring my world view into this website, a curation of what I find particularly stunning, unique, and newsworthy.

It’s an exciting time for brands all over the world. With change comes opportunity. With the global ‘reset’ and uncertainty on many fronts, there is a chance to write a new script. Let’s be those pioneers.

A bit about me:
A luxury and fashion journalist with 25 years of experience in publishing and magazine journalism, I have edited some of India’s top fashion and luxury magazines. I got my BA in Comparative Literature from UC Berkeley, and went on to receive my Master’s in English and French from the University of Strasbourg, France. I have also studied German and Film. I live in Gurugram, India, and look forward to once again exploring our world with a new-found freedom.
